THE CHALLENGES
TransnetBW challenge –
Market entry strategy in the context of electric vehicle charging in a roaming-free setting
Challenge
- Plan a market entry strategy for BANULA
- Analyze the environment and the relevant stakeholders
- Define measures and first products
Background
- Operators of charging infrastructure for electromobility (charge point operators, short: CPOs) strive for a strong market position and therefore invest in the expansion of charging stations.
- This business model is disrupted by BANULA: No matter who operates the individual charging station, it is always billed with its own electricity supplier.
- BANULA will make charging of electric vehicles barrier-free and user-friendly in the sense that a customer can charge anywhere, anytime with one tarif, being independent on roaming platforms or more than one charging card.
Award
- Follow-up contract by TransnetBW and the BANULA consortium (Schwarz, Fraunhofer IAO, Badenova, Becker Büttner Held, OLI Systems, smartlab, Universität Stuttgart) worth €50,000
- Chance to present progresses at IAA MOBILITY 2023

EnBW challenge –
Inspection of solar parks using drones
Challenge
- Develop a concept for the permanent inspection of solar parks using commercially available drones
- Objective: a high degree of automation and availability and an economic implementation
Award
- Follow-up contract
Enpulse challenge –
Business models in context with hydrogen
Challenge
Present innovative business models in the hydrogen context (e.g. hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen as-a-service, …), which Enpulse can implement internally as impulses within EnBW Innovation.
Background
- Hydrogen has the potential to be a clean and renewable energy source.
- It can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, and generate electricity. Additionally, hydrogen can be used as a storage medium for excess renewable energy, such as solar and wind power.
- This makes hydrogen companies important for the development and deployment of clean energy technologies, and for helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- However, the hydrogen economy is still in the starting blocks and needs good ideas and founders like you.
Award
- Scholarship from Enpulse worth €120,000
- Chance to work together with EnBW

eFuel Alliance challenge –
Objective comparison platform for different drive concepts
Challenge
- Develop an objective comparison platform to compare different drive concepts (e.g. electric motor, internal combustion engine, fuel cell, hybrid drive, …)
- The platform should provide an unbiased and comprehensive analysis of each concept, e.g. their advantages and disadvantages, efficiency, environmental impact, or other relevant factors.
- Goal: to help individuals make informed decisions about which concept to choose
- The platform should be based on the Wikipedia principle where individuals can add additional input themselves.
Background
- Right now there is no comparison platform for different drive concepts that can help individuals and organizations make informed decisions about which technology to use for their transportation needs.
- With the growing concern about climate change and air pollution, it is crucial to evaluate the environmental impact of different drive concepts and choose the most sustainable option.
Award
Further development of best running prototype to MVP with eFuel alliance partners
